You’re never going to have a perfect resume in the eyes of every person who views it, no matter how much you spend or if you create it yourself.
The goal is getting it as close as possible.
We focus on making it “piloty” from top to bottom, free from errors and representing everything that’s needed.
There isn’t a cheat code or magical way to “stand out” per se, but it should be easy for you to update and work FOR you, not against you.

True story. I also would get bonus marks in university being the ✨ only ✨ student to hand in assignments with zero spelling, grammar or punctuation errors.

Some resumes don’t get any traction because they’re missing key (dare we say crucial?) pieces of information.
No flight hours or phone number. No certificates and ratings. Things hidden away or tucked at the bottom of 6 pages.
Follow the standard format for pilot resumes. It should be one page with a natural flow of important pilot info. We want it to be “piloty” (going to trademark that term!) from top to bottom.

One size does not fit all, which is why LOTS of emails and DMs we receive mention “not wanting to be a CFI.”
While we think being a CFI is a great gig, people are also all unique. You have to ultimately decide which role is going to work for you because you know yourself best.
Google is your friend. You may have to do some legwork but take the time to research, find lists of companies and connect with people. (The FAA also has lists of every company within certain criteria.)
Use LinkedIn just to see where people are working. If they’re smaller companies and they’re leaving or look like they could be leaving soon based on timelines, write it down.
Don’t waste your time searching Indeed or applying to roles that seem too good to be true.
If you have to take a non-flying job at an airport or for a company, sometimes it pays to play the long game.
Above all, keep pursuing bigger and better things. Think outside the box and meet as many people as you can!

There are soooo many factors that go into a pilot resume, but here are the top 3 things we look at first.
First, follow @pilotresumes and save this reel for later.
1. Does the resume have everything it needs in terms of certs/ratings, hours and overall qualifications?
2. The quality of the hours. Multi-engine, turbine, actual instrument… where are the hours at? Are the hours correct?
3. Is the contact info correct? The number of times phone numbers and emails have been wrong or missing is CRAZY.
It isn’t anything revolutionary, but the details matter.
